Forget hiring white-collar workers. Start creating green-collar jobs.
Your institution needs to embrace alternate methods, processes, technologies and systems to become sustainable. A green-collar worker will work towards greening your business. Implement environmentally conscious design into your products. Look for technologies that can put eco-friendliness in every process of your services.
Invest in Energy efficiency and save Negwatts. Improve your energy productivity to add to bottom line. Use cleantech, greentech, renewable energy sources to become a prosumer. Appraise ethnographic energy angle – quantify how people’s behaviour affect energy usage in your organization.
Reconsider at your transportation requirements. Measure the miles travelled by employees for work. Put goals to reduce the miles per employee. Record and report your results internally and externally to create awareness and voluntary participation.
Look at your water requirements. Become water positive as an establishment. Assess water sources, bring in efficiency of water supply, improve distribution systems and relook at your water disposal mechanisms. Compute the nexus between water and energy. The study could throw up interesting dimensions on how you could save on both.
Waste is about energy and it is also about water. Nature produces no waste. It knows how to put every resource to use. So could you. Assess how waste can be reduced, recycled, reused, and disposed. Evaluate producing gas or electrical energy out of waste. If your organization employs over a thousand employees, determine the amount of kitchen waste during lunch hour. That could be a good starting point.
Invest in making your products and services line greener. Identify and employ sustainable technologies and earth-friendly materials.
Last fifty years saw the world emerge from industrial economy into knowledge economy. Future belongs to green economy. If you embrace green technologies you have a stronger chance of being or becoming a market leader in the emerging business world.
