Upala Yoga: Practice of the Stones

"Stones are practicing yoga, I am merely spotting them," says Upala Yoga (meaning Yoga of the Stones in Sanskrit) proponent Shane Hart. Fascinated as a child with magic tricks and illusions, he finally began working with balanced stones in 1995.

Arranging stones over stones, known as Petromancy, Awareness Art and Earthworks, is a art practiced in the world for thousands of years. Hart decided to call it as Upala Yoga. He spends hours on a sculpture without getting disturbed by the fact that a small change in environment can bring it down in an instant. Hart claims in his website, "It’s a meditative art that evokes a sense of amazement, focuses our attention in the moment, and challenges us to examine our attachment to the material world."

Yoga means, 'to be one with nature', undisturbed by what happens outside of us. Air, Earth, Water, Fire, Sound, Ether can all lead us towards the yogic state of mind. Such a pure state can only be achieved through inner travel.

Start searching inside you. A perfect balance awaits you.
