Often I have observed children coping better with the present in real life when they are able to handle various scenarios in the imaginary, hypothetical world. I have experienced this with my own children, purely out of coincidence. When there is, say, a conflict between any two children at home, we'd try and take a trip into an imaginary world where the problem could be magically solved. It not only distracts them from the immediate predicament faced by them but also helps them to quickly think up of alternative solutions to the situation on hand. Besides they tend to get a satisfaction of solving their problem in an imaginary world with no controls and reality checks. When we feel that in a magical world everything can be solved by a wave of a wand, we somehow tend to gain strength to face the reality. Most importantly, it eases tension instantly and puts a smile on everyone.
Go ahead, give it a shot. Try it yourself. It is fun.
